How do you define balance & stability... in your life
Change is inevitable, often it comes unnanounced and we usually find ourselves ill prepared. Yet change can be positive. How do we adapt to it, what do we do to make it work for us and our priorities?
I do not have the answer, but instead search for solutions. One option (although not very popular) is to come to the conclusion that the change is "not all about me."
Several interesting things occur when you take this perspective:
1. You begin thinking through things differently, humbly searching for solutions to solve others' problems. While doing this we come to the realization that helping others adapt, succeed, and see the big picture (not just the company's big picture mind you) actually helps us live a more fulfilling life.
2. You lose the sense of being the "resident expert", which contrary to popular belief is quite refreshing. Without others we are meaningless anyway. Consider life by yourself? Why not, empower others to grow into the individual they long to be? Does having more compotent, motivated employees, family members, friends actually hurt us?
3. We are reminded that the world is not about us. We are by nature focused on self. Thus we are required to regularly step back and reflect on what is truly important. In 10, 20, 30 years what will be important to you...helping others or helping yourself?
